The Tesla Towers

The Tesla Towers are 3 uniquely designed towers, besides the odd shaped facade, the building has special features installed in it that make it stand out from other buildings. One of the features is that the lights change colour as the time of day changes from day to night. Another special feature is the automatic shutters. During the day the building is open and the automatic shutters are open completely to let sunlight into the office building, but as night approaches the buildings sensors go off and the shutters close off most of the buildings windows. The building was created using different hexagonal sized floors on each storey, which made the shape seem odd. To get around the building there is 1  glass elevator in each of the 3 towers, and to get from one tower to another there are short bridges that connect in the centre of the tower.

Chose Prescribed Additional Representation

Buildings used in the colaboration were Peter Eiesenmans Reinhard Haus and House Vi, and Kazuyo Sejima small house. I used Eisenmans overlapping and odd shaped designs to create my facade at the same time using Kazuyo Sejima’s small house different floor to floor size to further improve my design.

The Preperation

1.A brief outline of Project 1 – What was your chosen architecture? What were the concepts unpacked in your concept model?

My chosen architectures are Peter Eisenmans Reianhardt Haus and Kazuyo Sejima's small house. the concepts unpacked for my model were the use of irregular shapes, stacking shapes together and overlapping.

2.A visual analysis of 2x precedent studies as a pair – One from your Project 1 architect, another from an architect of your own choosing. How are they conceptually similar to Project 1?

The Reinhardt haus and the and Kazuyo Sejima Small House are conceptually similar as they are both irregular in shape and out of the norm, they are both multi storied and are really translucent which my building lacked. They also uset he  stacking of shapes. The Reinhardt haus stacks shapes in all different directions which also gives it that irregular shape while the kazuyo Sejma Small House uses stacking of floors that change size of the ground and ceiling on each floor.

3.A Design Proposal and Design Draft for Assignment 3 – List three specific building types and functions for your new design. How can they challenge the concepts and ideas you have looked at in Project 1? Select one and begin a first design draft.
